The Numbers from 2010

Part of the attraction for most of us to the fitness world is the numbers. We love the statistics and go to great lengths to measure them. Interestingly enough when you do background checks on the serious runners, triathletes, etc., you will find that they are accountants (present company), engineers, scientists, bankers, and professions and jobs where there is a connection to numbers and statistics. On numerous occassions I have thought it would be great to free myself from the Garmin and just workout with no watchful eye, but I can't. Quite frankly, I don't enjoy it! Since I do all my workouts by myself, it is the watchful eye I need to ensure that I complete the time and distance I had planned. So with that prologue I present the results for 2010 with 2009 for comparative purposes!

Swimming - 2010 148.2 Miles, 83:58, average pace 34:00/mile
Swimming - 2009 117.8 Miles, 69:54, average pace 35:36 / mile (pool was closed for an extended period in 2009)
Bike - 2010 2,300 miles, 123:00 hrs, 18.7 MPH
Bike - 2009 2,206 miles, 116:14 hrs, 19 MPH
Run - 2010 1,607 miles, 190:34 hrs, 7:05 / mile
Run - 2009 1,510 miles, 180:44 hrs, 7:12 / mile

Probably one of the most striking things is the consistency. Over a year the numbers are relatively close. Also interesting to note is that at the ripe old age of 50, I am still improving, albeit slightly!
So the plan for this year is to be at least as consistent and to try and make some more small improvements. At the end of the day though, it's all about staying in good health an getting the most out of this wonderful gift we call life!
Have a great week!

Good looking numbers from a scientific perspective! 2010 was good to you and I'm sure 2011 will be even better. Stay healthy/uninjured and good luck with your plans! (and a belated Happy 51st)
